Age/Grade: Girls grades 3-4 (10U). This is a fun, focused and enhanced atmosphere where the girls will learn and build onto the key fundamentals of lacrosse while being challenged to hone in on field concepts and competition at a faster pace. These girls are in the "golden age" of learning and sport skill development. Girls in this stage become less self-centered and are able to reflect on their actions and learn from their mistakes for the greater good of the team. This is the optimal time to build a large repertoire of lacrosse-specific skills and learn the basic principles of play in a fun, challenging environment.
Format: Each week, we will focus on tactical skills and an increased amount of decision-making concepts in a competitive environment. We will focus on stations for tactical skills for more touches on the ball for each player but split into teams to work on settled and transitional concepts as a group so they can work on team chemistry and increasing their lacrosse IQ. Tactical skills include ground balls, cradling + stick protection, catching, passing, shooting + faking, dodging, defensive positioning, offensive concepts, clears and the draw while adding in more competition and situational focused stations. We will spend time each practice on physical literacy, improving each kid's fundamental movement skills as well.
Practices (21): Before DST, we will be on Saturdays and Sundays. After DST, we will move to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Location: Carmel Middle School (5001 Camilla Drive Charlotte NC 28226)
Game Days (8): These games will be against other SPYA 3-4 grade teams and other programs. Many other programs only have 1-2 teams and we will have more than that, limiting the amount of outside competition available to us. Times for games are TBD until other programs confirm their teams and dates for play. We will play both home and away.
